He's Back!

After what seemed like an eternity, Isaac is back home! And while being child-free was at times super delightful, we are sure glad he's back home. Isaac made a cross country journey by car with his grandfather (Carissa's father) and stopped all along the way.

Once on the west coast that lucky kid even got to go to Disneyland. There's only a few weeks before school starts. Pretty soon it will be back to routines, but for now I think we'll just enjoy some time with Isaac.

In Progress

We're in the midst of a time crunch here people. Isaac's room is not yet finished and it feels like we have a long way to go before it will be. The room has been painted (though the white could use a second coat, that it will not be receiving) and the grey stripes have been painted. I've nixed painting his bookcase white unless time magically appears along with white semi-gloss paint. The next item on the agenda is to do the glow in the dark paint on the ceiling (and possibly he walls) that should be getting done tomorrow since Kyle will be off work. We were hindered be Michael's being out of the paint Kyle had selected. They had something from Martha Stewart but it was called a finisher as opposed to a paint and recommended 2 coats which isn't really a possibility with the idea of a night sky done kinda splatter style on the ceiling.

Project-wise the room's close to done, it's assembly that needs to happen. Assembly is waiting on that glow in the dark paint project to be done. We've got a dresser (poached from our room, that I'd like to paint but which most likely won't happen), curtains for the closet, a new bookcase with canvas bins, 2 new lamps and a rug I'm poaching from my parent's garage. We also bought a new comforter set though it's not the one I wanted. I'm thinking of heading back to Target to pick up a clock and a shower curtain to use a a curtain at his window. I wish that we would have had more money and time to go out shopping, but what can you do. I think the room will turn out fine and I cross my fingers that the kid will like it.

July 4th means Barbecue, Right?

I had every intention of posting on the 5th, but here I am on the 7th, oh well. What did we do on the holiday? The great American BBQ, of course. Our cookout was like last time of the potluck variety. I'm sticking to that being possibly the best way. Maybe one day we'll do the whole enchilada, but I love getting help and I think people like helping. This time around we invited our next door neighbors, the Wiggletons and in addition to being the best neighbors ever, they also added a lot to the supply. Having an extra table plus an umbrella really helped. Everyone chowed down and there was bunches of food. Burgers, hot dogs, roast, chicken, potato salad (store bought & homemade), Stromboli, an apple dessert, chips, baked beans, sodas, and cookies make for lots of good eating.

Nevermind those faces, that's just the heat talking.

Kyle's looking to have one more cookout before summer's over sometime around Isaac's return. July 4 was our last whole day with the kid, Grandpa Gregg picked him up the next day and now they are on their way cross country heading to Seattle, Washington. Kyle may not get his cookout hosting wish because Eric and Krystal put an offer on a house and if all goes well, they'll close right before school starts and they want to host a Labor Day cookout. The dates work for Kyle to have one more and E&K to host one in September, so we'll just have to wait and see if we do another.

Isaac's Room Mood Board

Isaac's getting a room of his own again and we've decided to go ahead with a full blown room makeover. since he'll be gone for almost this whole month it gives us time to 1. get it done without him having to live in a project in progress and 2. surprise him with it. We actually haven't told Isaac that he'll be getting a room of his own so that will be a surprise all by itself with a decorated room an extra treat on top. The plan for his room also includes wide painted striped walls in grey and white. Whether or not we'll do one wall in wood is still undecided. He'll be moving into the smaller room so my concern is that the wood might make his room feel busy or crowded. I also have a 2nd blanket idea for his bed though the navy and white stripe is my first choice. Hopefully we can pull off this makeover for not too much and on time. Wish us luck!
